Parent Workshop: Protecting your Child from Sexual Abuse Workshops focus on the most
effective safety strategies parents can teach their children to minimize
the risk of childhood sexual abuse. Professionals now agree that
many of the old safety strategies previously taught are not effective.
Current research, in fact, documents that 1 out of 6 boys and 1 out of 4
girls will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. Recent
research on perpetrator patterns as well as on children’s
developmental and cognitive capacities also suggest that the most
effective protective strategies for children are not the traditional ones
children have been taught. Armed with specific, common-sense,
suggestions, parents report feeling empowered to help their children
maintain their safety. In addition to teaching
effective safety strategies, I also address the issue of how parents
can help contain their children’s fears even as they discuss the very
possibility of a frightening scenario with their children. Workshops can be arranged
for any number of interested people, from an individual, to a small
group, to the parent body of a school. For more information contact
